20 million years of evolution emerged the lions to the top of the food chain in Africa. These apex predators became widely recognized symbols in culture with their spectacular outfit of 180-250 kg maximum weight and 175-300 cm length and the body shaped to hunt and fight.
Although lions are presented as superstars in almost each bigger zoological garden, these animals are somehow lack the full extension of the virtue that made them to cultural icons. When I glimpsed the first wild lions in Africa, I understood why these animals became the symbols of honor, strength, nobility and authority.
Humans kill their idols from time to time and the Homo Sapiens shapes the Earth to a planet of a homogeneous biomass serving its believed purposes, but I strongly believe that we would really miss this species from our life, once it is extincted.
